Design stage communication
2022.3.3 Received customer inquiry, the customer needs Telescoping Steel Tubing, but there is no drawing for the part of the pipe, for the link parts to be installed on the pipe can have a general design.
The customer information is as follows:
3 sections of Telescopic Tube, diameter: 7 mm, 8 mm, 9 mm. Overall length 500mm.
The left side (7 mm diameter) is the support section for the sensor.
The fixed section should be connected to the connector in the telescope using thread M6.
Thread M6, thread length 10 mm, hole diameter fixed.
The other dimensions are variable. The connector must not swing.
The right side (9 mm diameter) will be glued in the handle (it can remain unchanged).
Preliminary offer
According to the customer’s requirements, we recommend and quote for straight drawn stainless steel telescopic pole of OD 9.3-11.1-12.9 mm.
Our price includes the connections requested by the customer, as shown in the picture:
Technical negotiation
- Joint negotiation:
The customer is very happy that we have existing fittings of the telescopic pole to offer, but the customer is very concerned about the size of the fittings: the customer needs fittings with M6 thread and 3.8 mm hole.
We have similar fittings as below and can customize them according to the customer’s drawing.
- scale negotiation
Then, the customer asked us to add the scale for the Telescopic Tube.
We recommended laser printing, which can be done on the customer’s tube according to the drawing below.
Proofing
The customer agreed the final dimensions and details to proof a set of 9-10-11mm Stainless Steel Telescoping Tubing with fittings and scales.
Problems encountered during the proofing process:
- scale problem
We found a problem with the laser scale, when the tube is fully expanded, does the scale have to be 0-50 cm from left to right?
When we manipulate the sample, when the second tube is pulled, the scale is marked according to the unfolded length.
If you pull 5 cm, the scale shows 25 cm, if you pull 10 cm, the scale shows 30 cm. As shown in the video.
Customer response: When the tube is fully extended, the scale must be 0-50 cm from left to right. The start is on the left side, the smaller tube with a diameter of 9 mm is shown in the video from the right side, starting from the largest diameter.
The numbers should be above the partitions and not next to them.
And the scale starts at 6, not 1, as shown below:
We modified the laser again, see the video:
Feedback from the customer after receiving the sample:
The customer is a German who is very strict about the fineness of the product, the customer has some questions about the sample:
- laser letter blur problem
Our reply: When we do the sample laser, the tube is placed manually.
Therefore, in the process, vibration will occur and the position will be deviated.
Our solution is to open a fixture to fix the place of the workpiece, which can avoid these problems.
- scale position problem
Customer suggested: The number of inch scale should be near the dividing line. Not under the dividing line of the telescoping round steel tubing.
Our reply: We will improve this point, before the wrong communication that all the markings should be above the dividing line. We will improve it in the bulk order.
Bulk order stage
For the reason that proofing again will cause cost increase, the customer decided to directly place bulk order.
However, we need to assist in taking some photos and measurements during the big shipment.
We are very happy to serve our customers, so we made another sample and took all the detailed photo.
Pictures we would like to have (example pictures)
1. The whole telescope in the extended condition. Groove up.
2. The whole telescoping steel tubing in the extended condition. Groove down.
3. Beginning of the tube to check the bending.
4. End of the steel telescopic pole to check the bending.
